The Digital Agriculture lab (https://digitalag.bse.wisc.edu/) is planning to recruit one PhD students at University of Wisconsin-Madison starting from Spring 2027 or Fall 2027. Candidates with research experience in machine learning/deep learning, remote sensing, precision agriculture are highly desired. Ideal candidates would be with M.S. degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Agricultural/Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geography or other related disciplines. Candidates with a research focus on one of the following two areas are strongly encouraged to apply.
1) Develop machine learning models with satellite remote sensing data for precision agriculture.
2) Precision agriculture using UAV multi-sensor data (e.g., hyperspectral, RGB, lidar);
The PhD student will be supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Zhou Zhang (https://bse.wisc.edu/staff/zhang-zhou/) through the Department of Biological Systems Engineering within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The student will also have opportunities to collaborate with researchers with diverse background. Minimum English requirement: TOEFL 80 for tests taken before January 21, 2026; 4.5 for tests taken on and after January 21, 2026; Or IELTS 6.5.
